The
Bowen Therapists Federation of Australia is an umbrella organization in Australia dedicated to promoting several schools inspired by the work of Tom Bowen. They were all very gracious and generous to me when I was visiting "down under." I am proud to be an overseas member and support their efforts.
There are a number of choices available when looking for a therapist or school based on Tom Bowen's work. This can all too easily degenerate into rigidity and fanatical partisanship. Finally, thankfully, some in the U.S. are beginning to evolve into more of the eclecticism of the Bowen Federation in Australia. Potential clients and students of the art need to know what's available to make informed comparisons. There are now two websites specifically serving the U.S. with listings of practitioners and institutes in all of the known versions of Bowen's Therapy:
The Bowen Directory is a convenient, well-designed resource for fans of Bowen techniques. Therapists are listed (for a nominal price) along with their specific schooling and credentials. One can also find schools and classes.
Gerri Shapiro in beautiful Maui, has an introductory, self-help Bowen video, as well as a general informational website. Her basic orientation is the Bowtech variety, but the site has value to practitioners and interested public regardless of specific leanings.
John Coleman has a fascinating story to tell, and practical tools to share, about his and others' recovery from Parkinson's disease. And yes, it does involve Bowen work.
Calling all women! There are so many misinformed, misleading and downright dangerous notions out there about menstruation, menapause, osteoporosis and breast cancer. If you want to be an empowered, informed participant in your hormonal health, you owe it to yourself to give
Dr. John Lee a listen. Outstanding books and web newsletters are available.
Virginia Hopkins was co writer of all of Dr. Lee's books, and forwards his work along with a refreshingly honest, practical, and informative website of her own:
Virginia Hopkins Heath Watch Test Kits, E-Mail Newsletter, Article Archives, and more.
And where is the best place to go for the natural herbal formulas that Dr. Lee and others recommend? The
Alternative Medicine Network. Their products are well-researched and up-to-the-minute, and their customer service is sterling.
Another helpful resource to explore is the Menopause and Black Cohosh Information Center. Here you'll find valuable articles regarding menopause, in-depth analysis of treatment options, and methods for effectively dealing with menopause.
Joan Borgos has put together a very informative web site on
Bell's Palsy. This is a serious and debilitating condition, and we appreciate her efforts to support and educate those who suffer.
The Foundation for Human Potential is a non-profit organization at the cutting edge of brain development (and especially brain damage) research and education.
Galen Knight and crew have researched and put together an enormous amount of nutritional data on his
Vitale Therapeutics site. Not for the faint of heart! Some parts are quite technical, and much of it may rattle your assumptions.
